1Biography Summary

Pr. Dr. Issam Bennis is a medical doctor and Assistant Professor of Public Health at the International School of Public Health and the Faculty of Medicine at the Mohammed VI University of Science and Health in Casablanca since December 2021. PhD in Biomedical Sciences obtained between 2014 and 2018 from the Institute of Tropical Medicine and the University of Antwerp in Belgium.

Specialist in Public Health with a Masters in Health Organisation Management since 2010.

Pr. Dr. Issam Bennis is an Assistant Professor of Public Health with extensive expertise in biotechnology applied to infectious diseases, diagnostics validation, and biomanufacturing processes. His multidisciplinary profile combines advanced biomedical research, health management, and teaching, positioning him ideally to lead capacity-building initiatives in biomanufacturing and vaccine production in Africa.

Qualification in Epidemiology and control of tropical diseases, Researcher on leishmaniasis control programmes, and evaluator of diagnostic tools and laboratory techniques, PCR, genetic diversity, biological mechanisms of Leishmania and new medical technologies. In addition, I completed the One Health distance learning Master's course, with several distance learning and face-to-face certificates.

Expert in biotechnology applications within public health, with a strong background in tropical diseases, diagnostic biotechnologies, and biomanufacturing capacity-building initiatives. Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, develop strategic academic curricula, and foster international collaborations in health sciences and biotechnology.

From 2003 and 2021 he held a number of positions within the Moroccan Ministry of Health in the field of health organisation management and the regulation of public and private healthcare provision at regional and provincial level. Over a period of three years, he was in charge of all the public services provided by the Ministry of Health in the Province of Errachidia, including four hospitals and around ten RESSP, REMS and REH support establishments.

Former medical researcher at the National School of Public Health in Rabat. Principal investigator and facilitator of implementation research assisting in decision-making with support from the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office and the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank and WHO Geneva Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR). This pathway has enabled the development of a spectrum of areas of expertise relating to tropical and infectious diseases of poverty, leishmaniasis, podoconiosis and trypanosomiasis. Skin scars, associated stigma and psychosocial attributes. Discourse analysis, new qualitative research methods, pragmatic clinical trials, diagnostic SOPs, good clinical and laboratory practice, computerised literature reviews. Health policy decision support in the field of communicable disease control, vector control, entomology and veterinary medicine with a zoonotic component.

On the teaching front, ongoing and regular activities in support of basic training at the International School of Public Health, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Pharmacy at UM6SS.

Pedagogical coordinator of 1st cycle training courses at the Faculty of Medicine. Initiator of activities to improve student internship practices at the Faculty of Medicine, with the introduction of standardised operating procedures at the International Medical Simulation Centre and the reorganisation of training and learning objectives through practical experience in the field, as part of the reform of the training curriculum.

Pedagogical coordination and delivery of university courses in public health, including components on biotechnology, vaccine production and health security. Proven experience in training trainers ("Training the Trainer"), notably via certification from the Mohammed VI Centre for Continuing Education.

Parallel activities: Initiator of proposals for innovative training pathways combining precise medicine, artificial intelligence, the digitalisation of medical practices, medical devices, medical diagnostic technologies and medical and economic evaluations, based on the use of several specialised software programmes.

5.7Institutional Consultancy and Expertise

Antimicrobial resistance KAP project to document the general population, physicians and veterinarians. As part of an EIM6SP UM6SS consultation for DELM ONSSA funded by WHO Morocco. Final report submitted on time during November 2023. EIM6SP research team composed of Prof. Mouwafaq, Prof. Khattabi, Prof. Bennis.

Migrants project methodological support. For the implementation in Phase 1 of the qualitative study on the perception of care services of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection by migrants (undocumented, regular and refugees). Then for the implementation in Phase 2 of the terms of reference proposed to EIM6SP for prioritisation.
